Nigel Bakhai at Ealing Town Hall
Ealing Southall Liberal Democrats have selected local party Chair Nigel Bakhai to be their parliamentary candidate at the next General Election in a packed meeting at Ealing Town Hall.
Following recent by-election successes in Brent East and Leicester South, the Liberal Democrats look set to mount a serious challenge to the current Labour MP Piara Khabra.
Nigel Bakhai said: "Recent by-election results clearly show more and more voters around the country see the Liberal Democrats as the effective opposition to this Labour Government. Like his boss Tony Blair, no-one will trust Piara Khabra again after his support for the Iraq war."
Nigel, who lives in the constituency unlike the current Labour MP, is also the Chair of the Hanwell Steering Group and earlier this year led a successful campaign to save the Hanwell Community Centre.
Nigel added: " The choice at the next General Election in Ealing Southall will be between a hard-working local Liberal Democrat who will fight for good public services or a Labour MP from Ickenham."
