Mervyn Kohler, Head of Public Affairs at Help the Aged, has backed Lib Dem campaigns to maintain dignity and security for pensioners in their retirement. Mr Kohler said: "The Liberal Democrats have popular policies on pensions, long term care and Council Tax, and have responded to the challenges raised by older people in these areas."

Tom Watts also backed Lib Dem efforts to put the issues that older people care about onto the political map in the December edition of 'Mature Times' newspaper saying: "Of all the major parties, the Lib Dems appear to be offering more to the 50+ lobby than any of the others. Certainly in my time writing for the "grey market" they have been easily the most active in raising issues - such as care home shortages, bed blocking, Council taxes, and a better State pension."

Ealing Southall Lib Dem campaigner, Nigel Bakhai, commented: "On issues such as free care for the elderly, scraping the unfair Council Tax and with a commitment to give an extra £25 per week to all pensioners over 75, it is the Liberal Democrats who are standing up for Britain's pensioners in Parliament. The Labour Government has completely failed in its responsibilities to its older citizens and it is understandable why more and more pensioners are turning to the Liberal Democrats."
