Charles Kennedy at the march for peace in February 2003
Ealing Southall Lib Dem Nigel Bakhai has slammed the Labour Government's case for war in Iraq as a 'Weapon of Mass Deception' on the second anniversary of the march for peace before Tony Blair committed British troops to war in Iraq.
Nigel Bakhai, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Ealing Southall said: "Over a million people, including myself and many of my Ealing Lib Dem colleagues marched for peace in one of the biggest anti-war demonstrations in our nation's history. However, the Labour Government took us to war on a flawed prospectus against the will of the British people and I hope that voters in Ealing will remember that day in the forthcoming General Election. How can they forget Labour's betrayal of their trust and in particular Ealing Southall Labour MP Piara Khabra who marched for peace and then voted for war! For me, as for many people in Ealing and across the country, while we wish the Iraqi people every success in rebuilding their country, the War in Iraq was a Weapon of Mass Deception and Labour must pay a heavy price in the General Election."
