Council Leader's Street Is Dangerous and Untidy

March 13, 2005 12:00 AM

After waiting more than two months for the Council to repair a broken street sign and repair a possibly dangerously exposed wiring, Cllr Gary Malcolm, had enough!

Cllr Gary Malcolm and the Acton Lib Dems conducted a survey of the street (Mill Hill Road, Acton) where the Council leader lives. This showed that there were at least 13 items that needed fixing. Some of them are dangerous to pedestrians; the others show that the council is not very effective at maintenance.

Faulty items included a post box with graffiti on it; a broken street sign; a broken lamppost that had wiring exposed; many paving stones cracks causing trip hazards; a partial lighting column still present when it should have been removed; and a relatively new tree not secured properly.

Cllr Gary Malcolm, Lib Dem councillor, said: "Many of us have seen our streets become more dirty in recent years. If the leader of the council cannot get fixed, or has not even noticed, the problems - then that is a sad state of affairs."

Gary Malcolm added: "Liberal Democrats believe that ward councillors should spend some of their time walking the ward they represent. I do this and it allows me to get things fixed faster for residents."
