Acton Lane Bridge Closure Could Cause Huge Traffic Congestion Problems

Cllr Gary Malcolm, Southfield ward councillor, attended a meeting last night to discuss when and the details of the road closures when the Acton Lane Bridge will be repaired.

The closure while the bridge is repaired for about 62 weeks will cause local traffic diversions, perhaps through the Acton Green area. The Lib Dems favour the installation of a working platform so that the maintenance staff can work while causing only a limited amount of road closures.

Because there is a debate over whether a working platform would be safe for workers a decision was delayed. This means that very shortly the safety review would be completed and the work could begin. Proposed work times would be 8.30pm to 6am six days a week (not inlcuding Friday).

Cllr Gary Malcolm said: "Regardless of the decision to build a platform some traffic would be diverted. I would not like to see traffic rat-running into the Acton Green area. The Chiswick High Road is more able to cope with excess vehicles."

Gary Malcolm added: "I am also concerned that neighbours living very close will have excessive noise from the grinding machinery. After I asked the rail company, Metronet, said that they were going to install a baffle and would even consider glazing windows if needed."
