Charles Kennedy MP congratulates Ealing Southall Lib Dem Nigel Bakhai
Ealing Liberal Democrats would like to thank everyone who voted for them and especially those who contributed to the success of their recent General Election campaign. The Lib Dems made outstanding progress in all three Ealing seats with significant increases in their share of the vote.
However, the best performance of the night came in Ealing Southall where the Lib Dems beat the Tories into third place. Commenting on this result, Ealing Southall Liberal Democrat candidate Nigel Bakhai said: "I would like to thank everyone who made this result possible - in particular those people who put up posters, delivered leaflets, knocked on doors, gave donations and to the many thousands who voted for me. A Labour MP may have been re-elected here again but the Liberal Democrats were the real winners in Ealing Southall. Time and time again people said on the doorsteps that they like our policies, especially scrapping tuition fees for students, free personal care for the elderly, smaller primary school class sizes, more police on the beat and our stance against the war in Iraq. The results clearly show the Lib Dems are the real alternative to Labour in our area and we are now well placed to make further progress in the local elections next year."
