Lib Dem Council leader Cllr Harvey Rose
Ealing Liberal Democrats are consulting the public, especially members and supporters, on their policy manifesto for the 2006 Borough elections.
The manifesto is the responsibility of the Lib Dem Borough Group, which represents all three Lib Dem constituency parties in Ealing. However, the drafting committee wants to have input from as wide a number of people as possible and has invited all those with an interest, particularly if they have specialist knowledge, to contribute.
"We think it is important that local people should take part if forming policy on local matters before the elections," said Cllr Harvey Rose, Leader of the Lib Dem group on the Council, "rather than finding out only when the campaign starts what the parties are committed to. This is a necessary part of getting electors re-connected with what goes on in the Town Hall in their name."
The policy drafting committee already has on it people who work in education, health and social services, as well as in the private sector. It is headed by Jonathan Hulley, a practising lawyer, who says "All contributions are welcome. Members can attend any of our meetings, and the views of the ordinary voter are as important as those of specialists. We would particularly like to know what priorities and policies they want to see a Lib Dem run council adopt in Ealing."
Details of the group and its meetings are on the web site at www.ealinglibdems.org.uk. It can be contacted through its Secretary, Jeannine Andre, by post to 19 Charles Road, London W13 0ND, telephone 020 8357 9614 or e-mail jeannineandre@tiscali.co.uk.
