Ealing Southall Liberal Democrat campaigner Nigel Bakhai has slammed the three local Labour MPs in Ealing for backing the Government's controversial plans to extend the length of time terror suspects can be held without charge to 42 days.

Nigel Bakhai said: "Our three Ealing Labour MPs have once again proven that they are mindless sheep who toe the Government line, putting party above principle. Gordon Brown's attempt to look tough by introducing 42 day detention without charge has ended with him scraping a hollow victory thanks to the support of the Democratic Unionists because he couldn't even convince all the members of his own party of the need for this legislation."

Nigel added: "After spending billions trying to rescue his leadership over the 10p tax row this might have been a cheap victory for Gordon Brown, however the cost to the British public has been the further erosion of our civil liberties. All of this for a measure that will make absolutely no difference in fighting terrorism and will probably never even reach the statute book."
