Bus Stop F where the ghost bus appears...
Liberal Democrat parliamentary campaigner for Ealing Central and Acton, Jon Ball, has reacted angrily to the news that public money is being wasted on a completely empty bus service from Ealing Broadway station to Wandsworth Road, South London. It is a 50-seat executive coach that has no passengers and takes 70 minuets to complete its journey. This bus service then makes the return trip a couple of hours later. It leaves Ealing Broadway station, stop F, at precisely 9:45am and runs just once a week, on a Tuesday. Each coach costs the taxpayer £500, for a service that no one uses.
This bus service is in theory a replacement for part of a discontinued rail service between Birmingham and Brighton. It is being run to give the illusion that the line is still active. The aim of this is to close the down the line down quietly without a public consultation.
Commenting on his blog, Cllr Jon Ball said: "How dare Labour waste our money on this unused coach because they don't have the guts to consult people about axing this rail service? Ministers' efforts to avoid political embarrassment know no bounds."
