Ealing Liberal Democrats Welcome New PPCs

April 27, 2009 2:17 PM

Nigel Bakhai, Jon Ball and Francesco Fruzza after the hustings. At a recent meeting, members of Ealing Borough Liberal Democrats selected Francesco Fruzza and Nigel Bakhai as Prospective Parliamentary Candidates for Ealing North and Ealing Southall, respectively.

Speaking in response to his selection, Francesco said: "I was born, educated and have lived in Ealing all my life. I am honoured to be selected for the third time as the Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate to represent Ealing North. We have increased our vote at both the last two General Elections, and with the support of the local Liberal Democrat team working all year round every year, I am committed to represent the residents of Ealing North. Local people realize that the Liberal Democrats represent a genuine alternative to the Labour & Conservative parties. The Liberal Democrats will make a real difference at the General Election (whenever Gordon Brown decides to call it)."

Responding to his selection, Nigel Bakhai said: "I am delighted to have been selected to fight the next General Election for the Lib Dems in Ealing Southall. Both at the last General Election and in the 2007 parliamentary by-election the Lib Dems have shown that we are the challengers to Gordon Brown's failing Labour Government in Ealing Southall. This constituency badly needs an MP who will stand up for local people on the issues that matter to them like tackling the effects of the Credit Crunch on the local economy and the problems of traffic and parking in the area, as well as opposing a third runway at Heathrow. I am glad to have this opportunity to take the fight to Labour again at the next General Election to raise these local concerns as well as campaigning on wider national issues like the rising inequality between rich and poor in our society, this Government's chronic mismanagement of the criminal justice system, the lack of investment in affordable housing, and taking a green road out of the current recession by investing in better public transport and more renewable energy. "

Welcoming his two new colleagues, Cllr Jon Ball (PPC for Ealing Central & Acton) said: "I welcome Nigel and Francesco back to the team of Ealing Liberal Democrat candidates. Together the three of us will be fighting hard on behalf of local people who are struggling to cope in the current disastrous economic situation presided over by Gordon Brown and the Labour government. It's time for a change in Ealing, and the Liberal Democrat team offer that change."
