Elthorne Lib Dems have chosen Peter Hutchison, Dave Randles and Nigel Bakhai to stand in the local elections on May 6th.

All three have a strong connection to the area, and between them have lived in Elthorne for over 40 years.

Nigel Bakhai, is the former Chair of the Hanwell Steering Group, now known as the Hanwell Community Forum. Nigel, who lives in Azalea Close in Hanwell, was the Lib Dem candidate in Ealing Southall at the last General Election and then again in the 2007 Ealing Southall parliamentary by-election, both times increasing the Lib Dem share of the vote and beating the Conservatives into third place.

Peter Hutchison, who narrowly missed out by 68 votes in the 2006 council elections, has been a resident of Elthorne Ward for nine years, first at Cumberland Road and now in Green Lane in Hanwell. Peter is an active member of the Olde Hanwell Residents Association, creating and leading a Friends of King George's Field Playscape Group and was actively involved in opposing the Frendcastle proposal, which would have seen multi story blocks built alongside the Grand Union Canal in the old Booker Cash and Carry site.

Dave Randles, who lives in Felix Road in West Ealing, is a former Head of Operational Engineering at ITN as well as an active trade unionist before deciding to take early retirement in 2003. However, after a short career break, Dave now works at the London School of Management in Ealing handling overseas student visa applications and the school's health and safety policy. In all, Dave has lived in Ealing for thirty years, of which the last twenty years have been spent living in Elthorne, and he is a member of West Ealing Neighbours.

Nigel Bakhai, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman for Ealing Southall, welcomed the selection: "Dave, Peter and I are not only local residents but we really care about the Elthorne area and meeting the needs of local people. I am confident all three of us would make great councillors and we will work hard to make the Lib Dems the local choice in Elthorne."
