Sarah Teather MP
Today Brent MP Sarah Teather joined the Ealing Liberal Democrats at a public meeting to talk with members of the public about their policies for the forthcoming local, and the likely General election of May 6th. The event started with speeches from Sarah Teather MP and the Ealing Candidates before members of the public asked questions for over an hour.
Sarah Teather spoke about how Labour has allowed the gap between rich and poor to grow since Labour came to power and she stated that a Liberal Democrat priority was to change the tax system so that it is fairer for all. She commented: "It is a scandal that the poorest in our society pay the highest proportion on taxes."
Chris Lucas, Liberal Democrat candidate for Ealing North, spoke about the Conservatives cuts to policing in London and that if you were left injured in an assault that Labour plan to close local Accident and Emergency wards.

Jon Ball, Ealing Central & Acton candidate, commented that Ealing Council often wishes to allow large developments without considering their affect on the local area. Jon said: "Our schools are already full without any new large developments. The Council needs to look at the affects of developments." Jon also commented on the Lib Dem success in get the Council to change its mind so they will not build homes on Gunnersbury Park.

Nigel Bakhai, Ealing Southall candidate, spoke about how it was Liberal Democrat councillors who work tirelessly to help the residents they represent. Nigel also informed the meeting that Ealing Council has allowed our town centres, like Hanwell, to dwindle. The council needs to encourage more people to start up businesses.
At the end Sarah Teather answered questions about her proposals to change the electoral system so that if 5% of an MP's electorate want to see their MP sacked they can do if the MP has broken the rules.
