Jon Ball, the Liberal Democrat candidate for the highly marginal Ealing Central & Acton seat answered local residents questions on international issues including Palestine and Afghanistan and outlined Liberal Democrat promises to defend civil liberties here at home including scrapping the ID card system.
Over 50 local residents attended a pre-election hustings at St. Mary's Church Ealing on Friday 23 April for Parliamentary Candidates for the new Ealing Central and Acton Constituency.
The Liberal Democrat, Labour, Green and Independent candidates all took the opportunity to address voters at the meeting, to outline their own personal and party's views and take over an hour-and-half of questions from the audience, in what was a well-informed and serious interchange between voters and the Candidates.
Despite strenuous efforts made to persuade the Conservative candidate, Angie Bray, to face the voters, including phone calls, e-mails and an open letter signed by local voters, the candidate did not attend.
The Candidates' hustings for Ealing Central and Acton were organised by the West London branch of The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (WLPSC) which also arranged a similar hustings two weeks ago for candidates in the new Hammersmith constituency.
