Julie Saunders, Chair of the Priory Community Association, met with Liberal Democrat Leader, Councillor Gary Malcolm, ahead of an important debate in Ealing Town Hall about Acton's Priory Centre.
Julie Saunders successfully spearheaded a campaign to get 1500 signatures that forces Ealing Council to debate the topic of the poor treatment that user groups at the Priory Centre have suffered, on Tuesday 18th October. They want to ensure that Ealing Council finds them a place in Acton to stay while the Priory Centre is converted in a Primary School.

Councillor Gary Malcolm said: "We all think that the Priory Centre should be a primary school but it is possible to delay some of the Acton Town Hall works so that the current Priory Centre user groups have alternative community facilities. The Liberal Democrat group wishes to see Ealing Council help out by giving the Priory Centre users priority when booking rooms in the new community building when it is completed."
Julie Saunders said: "Ealing Council have treated the 30 or more user groups in Acton really badly. The Council promised to ensure that we would all be re-housed when the Acton Town Hall works occur. But so far it appears that many groups still have nowhere to go. Some groups might have to stop."
Julie added: "Many of the Priory's 1359 weekly users are young people and it is a great testament to the many years work by Priory Community groups that Acton was not affected by the riots. The Priory Centre user groups really add a lot to Acton's community cohesion and Ealing Council should realise the devastating effect it decisions will have."
