A local park in Hanwell is to receive an extra £20,000 of funding thanks to Elthorne Lib Dem Councillor Nigel Bakhai.
King George's Field, a small park on the corner of St Mark's Road and Lower Boston Road, has been blighted by anti-social behaviour thorughout the year with both the Police and Fire Brigade regularly being called out to deal with fires, vandalism, and street drinkers in the area. Tacking the anti-social behaviour in King George's Field has been identified by the Elthorne Safer Neighbourhood Police as one of their three top priorities, and following a meeting Cllr Bakhai attended in August with members of Ealing Council's Parks and Community Safety teams, the council has installed CCTV next to the park which has reduced the number of incidents that have been reported to the local police.
Plans are also now under way to redevelop King George's Field to improve the park and encourage more local residents to use the space. The Elthorne ward forum has agreed to spend £20,000 out of its budget for 2011-2012 towards the project, and following a successful bid by Cllr Bakhai for Parks Capital Matched Funding, this funding has now been doubled to £40,000. The council is now in the process of consulting residents living near the park over the future options for King George's Field.
Cllr Nigel Bakhai said: "I am determined to play my part, alongside the Police and the council, in tackling the issue of anti-social behaviour in King George's Field and in hopefully building a safe, enjoyable space there that residents will want to use and spend time in."
