Mike Cox at his adoption meeting
Mike Cox, former leader of the Liberal Democrat councillors in Hillingdon, has been selected by Ealing & Hillingdon Lib Dems to be their local candidate for the GLA elections on 3 May.
Mike was approved by Lib Dem members from both boroughs at a joint meeting in Ealing on Wednesday night.
A practicing chartered accountant,Mikehas lived in both boroughs and has two children, who both attended schools in Hillingdon.
"I believe I have the skills and experience to be a useful addition to the present excellent team of Lib Dem GLA members, working to keep a check on the London Mayor", said Mike. "This is particularly important in times of financial constrains, to ensure the weakest in our local communities are protected."
Answering a wide range of questions,Mike singled out getting better value for money on London's transport, such as a one-hour bus ticket and cheaper off-peak fares.
"With the Mayor taking over direct responsibility for the Metropolitan Police, there will be an even greater need for an experienced person in this area," addedMike. "This is why I am backing Brian Paddick for the job."
