In the parliamentary seat of Ealing, Acton & Shepherd's Bush Liberal Democrats gained a large increase In the vote during the general election. From being more than 10,000 votes behind Labour the gap has now been halved, giving the Lib Dems a real chance to win when the next general election occurs. Local councillor and Lib Dem candidate, Gary Malcolm, performed strongly massing over a quarter of the votes cast. Gary Malcolm now expects further successes and said: "With the boundary changes that will come into affect for the next general election here Lib Dems will certainly be favourites to win given our recent successes. The Lib Dems locally will continue to campaign on matters that affect the residents of our area. I look forward to anticipation to the local elections in May 2006!" Gary Malcolm added: "In the area the result showed that the previously strong Labour vote share in Shepherd's Bush and Acton no longer exists. Locallly and nationally they are seen to have made mistakes."
