Lib Dems Fight To Save Allotments In Acton4.58.09pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 4th Jul 2005
Cllr Gary Malcolm handed in a petition this week after building up support to save a number of allotments in Acton. Gary lives in Acton, adjacent to one allotment site and is concerned that if the current Crossrail plans go ahead then a number of allotment sites will disappear. Gary is pictured with allotment holders and residents of Alwyn Gardens who all want to stay as allotment holders. Many have told Gary and the Lib Dems that they enjoy time spent growing food here. Cllr Gary Malcolm, Environment spokesperson, said: "With so many children becoming obese it is important for children to see how food is easily grown and how good it tastes rather than relying on packaged foods."
