Local Lib Dem Councillor Protects Belongings with SmartWater2.13.57pm GMT Mon 8th Jan 2007
Lib Dem councillor Gary Malcolm who attended a public meeting with the local Southfield police team was given a tube of Smart Water (used to invisibly identify property such as jewelry to enable stolen goods to be handed back to their owner when found). Gary has used the Smart Water to 'mark' items such as his bicycle, mobile phone and other items. If they are stolen and recovered by the police they can be used to prove someone has committed a crime as well returning items back to the original owner. Cllr Gary Malcolm said: "I studied genetics at University and so know how this technology can be used to prevent crime as well as assist the police in returning stolen items, when recovered, back to their victims." Gary added: "I was told that a study was done in Manchester where some types of crime went down by 90% because criminals knew they could not get away with stealing items as they would be 'fingered' by the police. I hope people in Ealing take up the offer that police gave last month of getting a tube of SmartWater from them for free."
