Menzies Campbell opens Nigel Bakhai's by-election HQ

Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Menzies Campbell has opened the party's by-election HQ in Ealing Southall. The Liberal Democrats are in second in the seat.

Prior to meeting activists from across the country, he congratulated local campaigner Nigel Bakhai on being selected. Bakhai has a long history of community activism and doubled the Liberal Democrat vote in 2005.

Speaking ahead of the opening Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Menzies Campbell said:

"This is the biggest by-election HQ the party has ever had - a clear indication of our confidence.

"For years Nigel talked to people about the issues which matter - crime, Iraq, the NHS. In 2005 this focus doubled our vote - on July the 19th it will secure a historic victory.

"Labour are running scared - they have called this election early in a desperate attempt to stop the formidable Lib Dem by-election machine."
