Ealing Lib Dems have launched an Open Policy Forum for Ealing, aimed at creating broadly-based consensus for the formation of a programme for the borough. It will show what the public believes the Council should be doing after the elections next May.

Disenchantment with politics and politicians, locally as well as nationally, is widespread. At Euro and local elections this year, two-thirds of the electors did not vote. In Ealing, the Leader and Cabinet system means fewer and fewer councillors and officers decide the future of the borough while the public has less and less say over its £427m budget.

The borough elections next year give us a chance to change this. The first step is to understand what people really want from their council, with priorities for action.

The Open Policy Forum will cover a wide range of policies for what the Council should be doing over the next five to ten years. We will look at every serious proposal and to incorporate all feasible suggestions compatible with a consistent set of underlying democratic values into an OPEN MANIFESTO FOR EALING.

Contributors are invited to take part by coming to the open launch meeting of the initiative on Wednesday 18 November at 8 pm at Pitshanger Methodist Church Hall, W5.
